SBG is known internationally for Aliveness: training with movement, timing and genuine resistance rather than rehearsing techniques only against a compliant partner.
But there is an important distinction.
The level of resistance should match the student and the objective. A beginner needs room to recognise the problem and build a solution. An experienced student needs progressively more complex, realistic decisions. Neither needs an uncontrolled partner trying to win practice at their expense.
This is how we can take people toward the edge of their technical capability while still expecting them to train again tomorrow.
What training method consistently helps ordinary people develop functional skill?
